MiLNet Launch

David Sayer, Vice Chair at KPMG gives law firm leaders the benefit of his experience of the very successful ex-military and reservist programme at KPMG.

After what has been a long and difficult period for many, we were delighted to finally get together in person to launch the Military in Law Network - MiLNet. Hosted at the offices of Herbert Smith Freehills, the event was opened by AVM Ranald Munro (the Chair of MiLNet) before attendees, who included leaders from law firms and supporting organisations, heard from David Sayer, Vice Chair at KPMG, about the success and benefits of their organisations’ ex-military and reservist programme.

There followed an excellent and enlightening panel discussion led by Alexander Currie, partner at Herbert Smith Freehills, where attendees were able to hear from ex-service persons and reservists Kat Burke (Associate, Skadden Arps), Peter Lewis (Director International Operations, Akin Gump), James Futcher (LPC Student at BPP Law School) and Ahmad Badar (Barrister, 10 KBW ).

The event, attended by many of our member firms and organisations as well as several new-comers, was an excellent way to kick-off the work of the network and sets us up well for the forthcoming ‘Insights Event’ for Service Leavers, prospective Leavers, Veterans and military spouses on 16th November 16.30 – 18.30 at Lincolns Inn in London. This will be followed by a webinar for HR professionals in law firms in creating a policy for reservists on 30 November. Details of these events can be found here on the MiLNet website.
